A multicultural, historically Afro-Caribbean area, Brixton is one of the most vibrant neighbourhoods in London, with its bustling market and busy streets. Housing wise, it has a diverse mix of old Victorian homes, local authority housing and modern blocks of flats. With plenty of rooms and flats to rent and a close proximity to zone 1, Brixton is very accessible to the city centre and offers good value for money.
Brixton is part of the borough of Lambeth, in South London. It’s well connected to the rest of the city via excellent transport links (Zone 2). Hop on the Victoria Line and get to Oxford Circus in less than 15 minutes... Brixton is the last stop so you’ll always get a seat - even during rush hour! There are also a great deal of buses heading to all parts of town, many of which run 24/7. Brixton is in zone 2 and a monthly travelcard covering zones 1 and 2 will cost £134.80.
Brixton is well-known for its rich cultural scene, its diversity of music venues, hipster bars and classic London pubs. Catch some big names at the O2 Academy, head to Hootannanys for weekly live music (free before 9pm) or watch a film at the Ritzy Cinema.
Brixton village, a 1930s market arcade that was regenerated in recent years, is home to some of the best restaurants in town. Feast on delicious food from all over the world, from curried goat at Wings & Tings to French crepes at Senzala. A few streets down you’ll find Pop Brixton, a pop-up space for music, food & drinks, also home to Impact Hub, an affordable coworking space.
To escape the Brixton crowds, walk to nearby Brockwell park. Besides a pond and scenic views, the park offers plenty of outdoor sports activities such as a weekly park run and the Brockwell lido, an outdoor pool open all year. Herne Hill is a charming residential area surrounding the park - it has a weekly farmers market and some great independent shops.
